SchoolNet Mali has launched a project to install computer labs in partner schools to promote a cultural use of Information and Communication Technologies in academic activities for both students and faculty.
ComDev- USAID support and other partners (I-EARN Computer Aid International Geekcorps Mali, Ministry of National Education) has gained in Europe, 220 Used and reformed computers, train managers, administrators and maintenance staff for the laboratories of targeted schools.
The operating system adopted for the training is open source: Linux Mandrake. The use of desktop software on Linux (OpenOffice, text version of Wikipedia Encyclopedia / Office Software Text version of Wikipedia has enabled students to learn and conduct research without access to the Internet.
In its experimental phase, the project has enabled SchoolNet Mali, the training of 3,218 persons (23 trainers of trainers, managers of 20 rooms, 1,563 students, 138 teachers and 232 for the community). The number of trained people is largely surpassed 3,175 against 500 originally referred.
